Research Interests: 

Dr Hong’s main research interest is on novel monitoring, protection and control solutions for power systems with high penetration of renewables, which specifically includes:

  • Wide-area monitoring, protection and control techniques for low inertia systems
  • Protection challenges and the solutions for systems dominated by converter interfaced generation
  • Application of synchronous condenser and grid forming converters to support low-inertia and weak system operation
  • Resilience in future energy systems with multi-vector energy sources.
